A wave of a new kind of entrepreneurs has surfaced in the
recent years , called the social entrepreneur. A social entrepreneur is an entrepreneur who seeks social value and tries to help others. An example of one of these new age entrepreneurs in Blake Mycoskie, who started the TOMS shoes business. He was inspired after a visit to Africa, where he realized that the lack of shoes is actually a huge problem. He decided he would create a program where every time he sold a pair of shoes he would give a pair to children in Africa as well. The name "TOMS", is supposed to be a shortened way of saying "tomorrow", as though these shoes are focused on helping people in the long term rather than profits in the short term.
The companies mission statement is "I'm going to start a shoe company. For every pair of shoes that we sell, I will give a pair to someone who needs them." Though they both do good for the world, nonprofits are different from social entrepreneurship because nonprofits are generally centered around collecting charity, and cannot collect any profit, while social entrepreneurships can still collect profit, they just strive to help people as well as profit.
